A perfect little late-night eerie experience. Knowing that this game was partly based on dreams makes perfect sense--I think it really captured the feeling you can have when lucid dreaming, where your brain will string together scenes and experiences that feel somehow connected, and you keep pulling at that thread to try and figure out what they mean before waking up. The kind of dream where it all feels a little too real, and it's hard to distinguish between memory and symbolism as you dream it.
I adored the stylings and character design; I think it captures the essence of the era very well. Great job!
Thank you so much! And yeah, dreams combined with some crazy experiences I had while traveling and together, this came into fruition ha ha. I really enjoy this era of gaming because I think it does a lot of that (even if some of it may be nonsensical) and that's what makes it feel so special and personal :)
Everything about this was so authentically denpa. The visuals were really well done, and while I don't normally like games with photo bgs I think this one utilized them really well.
A nice short yet very creepy experience, great job!
Thank you so much! And yeah I actually did have lineart for drawn BGs but actually ran out of time and remembered that many denpa games DO use photo BGs. So call it economical lmao
You can *really* tell it's a windows 98 style game by the fact it doesn't give you a menu at the start, it just drops you in... and how it ends abruptly too. That kind of attention to detail is really nice! Also, the نَظَر gajinka. I love it. I nice (is that the right word for it?) denpa game that in the usual denpa fashion can mean a lot or just be nice vibes depending on how keen you are on putting it together. Good work!
I'm glad you saw it! I was worried about that (you have to manually remove the menu in RenPy and all the keyboard shortcuts to jump to it). Thank you so much for your kind words and I agree. A lot of this game is more based on feelings/dreams/moods rather than a coherent story since I think it adds a lot more to the weird vibes it has going for it.
That's relatable. What is not relatable is thinking that the connection to "old friend" somehow, unlike the other things, matters. The contact is just another short-timed pleasure. It can not can fix the world.
You definitely should've made an ending where you don't let her in.
I actually considered that too as an early bad/good ending (depending on how you interpret it). But time and the need to write additional endings got me in the end. For next time hopefully :)
I like the atmosphere and writing. It reminded me of a lot of denpa games I used to play.
On a very casual playing with no time to properly go in-depth.
I think this is about a woman's regrets about not telling her true feelings to that person. And it's too late to do anything about it? And it seems like they have an image of her that is not the real her that she's in love with. And if you pursue this image, it costs the girl's life or something like that?
I'll be completely honest, I normally avoid ENVNs, but this was a great experience. Super eerie atmosphere, good graphics, and the tracks were actually great compared to a lot of other visual novels that use unoriginal soundtracks. Also nice to see inspiration from one of the big denpa three. Easy 8/10.
Thank you! I’ll take the 8/10! There’s more room to improve (more games down the road soon~!) I love denpa games and anime and would love to make more similar to them with my own twist.
